Manufactured in 1887. Globe front, rear sight has been removed and Marble filler block installed, and equipped with a tang mounted mid-range peep sight. The top barrel flat is marked with the two line address/King's improvement patent dates and "22 LONG" at the breech. There is an unreadable period marking just ahead of the caliber marking. The upper tang is marked "MODEL 1873" and the serial number is marked on the lower tang. The barrel and magazine tube were blue, casehardened receiver and buttplate, single set trigger and mounted with a smooth walnut forearm with steel end cap and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate. Winchester sold only a little over 19,000 Model 73 rifles in 22 caliber from 1884 to 1904. The accompanying factory letter verifies serial number 243954B as a rifle, 22 Long caliber, 26 inch octagon barrel, set trigger, Lyman front and rear sights, casehardened and that it was received and shipped from the warehouse on August 27, 1887.

Condition: Good. The metal surfaces have a dark patina with overall minor pitting. The wood is very good with overall scattered minor dings. The markings are clear except for the caliber marking on barrel which has some non factory numbers stamped over a portion of the "2" in "22 LONG". The action is fine.
