Manufactured from 1853 to 1855 with a total production of approximately 4,997. This is the earliest Sharps Model with the distinctive "slanting breech" and is fitted with the lever hinge pin retaining spring mounted on the right rear of the forearm. The upper tang "C. SHARPS/PATENT/1848" followed by the serial number and the lock is marked "SHARPS/PATENT/1852". The inside of the patch box door is marked "157" with corresponds to the number stamped on the stock. Blade front sight and squirrel ear rear sight with the saddle ring bar with ring on the left side. Mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with brass patch box and carbine buttplate.

Condition: Very good plus. The barrel has a mottled brown patina. The hammer and receiver are a crisp dark silver grey with patterns of the original case colors. The wood is fine with some chipping on the underside of the forearm near the receiver, a few small dings, and some scattered minor handling marks. The brass is a very attractive dark mustard yellow in appearance and is very crisp.
