This early Rock Island Arsenal rifle originally had a rod bayonet and was originally chambered in 30-03 (now it is M1905 pattern in 30-06). Fixed front sight and ladder rear sight with 2,850 yard notch. The barrel is marked "RIA/flaming bomb/11-05" behind the front sight and the receiver has the standard markings. Mounted on a smooth walnut straight grip stock with finger grooves, filled in rod bayonet channel, two reinforcing bolts, boxed "J.L.?/1918" cartouche, boxed "SA/S.P.G." cartouche, two circled "P" proofs, sling swivels and a checkered steel buttplate with trapdoor (empty).

Condition: Fine as arsenal refurbished, the barrel retains 80% of the dark gray/black parkerized finish with some dings at the muzzle. The receiver retains 90% of the dark green parkerizing. The bolt retains 70% of the dark gray/black parkerizing. The floor plate and buttplate have traces of finish with a smooth gray/brown patina. The stock is good with a 7 1/2 inch long crack along the rod bayonet channel, some cracks at the upper tang of the buttplate and scattered dings and scratches. This is the lowest numbered Rock Island M1903 we have ever offered at auction!
