Manufactured from 1860 to 1868 with a total production of about 5,000 rifle variations and carbines, with the carbine the least produced making them very scarce. The top rear of the bolt is marked "E. REMINGTON & SONS, ILION N.Y. / PAT. FEBY 24 MCH 17, 1874 JAN. 18 / SEPT. 26 1876 MCH 20 JULY 31 1877". Blade front sight mounted on the barrel band and short folding military leaf style rear sight. This was Remington's first production bolt action carbine with an external, manually cocked hammer that functions only when the bolt is closed. Mounted with a half straight grip stock, with an iron forend cap with sling swivel, carbine buttplate and sling swivel.

Condition: Very good. The barrel retains 25% original thin blue finish mixed with smooth brown patina. The magazine tube has a smooth mottled brown patina and the receiver has a smooth mottled gray patina with a small amount of pin prick type pitting on the left rear. The buttplate has a mottled gray patina with some minor pitting on the heel. The stock is also very good with some overall scattered minor dents and dings. The markings are clear. The action is fine.
