Scarce Remington Factory Metallic Cartridge Conversion Revolving Rifle with Presentation Inscription
Manufactured from 1866 to 1879. Built on the frame of the New Model revolver series, these rifles had a slightly longer cylinder and a longer loading lever. This rifle is fitted with the rarely encountered 26 inch octagon barrel and is factory converted to .38 caliber rimfire with the specially installed conversion cylinder. The factory barrel markings are no longer visible, however, an inscription is legible on the upper and center left barrel flats: "Presented to I. NEILD / by the Employees of / Acker Merrall & Condit / Aug 1875". Founded in 1820, Acker Merrall & Condit is America's oldest wine shop that still operates to this day. Brass trigger guard and crescent buttplate, casehardened frame with the remaining surfaces blue. Matching numbers on cylinder pin and barrel, with the cylinder and cylinder conversion plate numbered "198". Smooth straight grip stock.

Condition: Very good. The rifle retains scattered traces of original blue finish with the balance a smooth brown patina. There is even minor pitting. The brass retains some traces of the original silver plating with the exposed brass having a mixed aged patina. The stock is fine with a minor gash (right side) and some minor dings and scratches. Mechanically fine.
