Scarce Post-American Revolutionary War Pond & Co. Albany New York Brass Barrel Flintlock Pistol

The lock plate is signed "POND & Co" ahead of the hammer with an engraving at the rear and a sun-ray type engraving at the flash guard. The hammer is lightly engraved. The brass barrel is marked "ALBANY" top flat with an engraved band at the breech and two British proof stamped on the upper left flat. The barrel tang has an engraving that matches the lock plate. The brass trigger guard is engraved with three star burst designs and has a pineapple finial. The ramrod pipes are brass and hold a wooden swollen tip ramrod. The full length varnished stock is smooth featuring a single barrel wedge with silver oval escutcheons and a brass buttcap with floral designed tang. Pond & Co. of Albany, New York, built flintlock pistols for sale in America from barrels and locks imported from England prior to the American Revolutionary War. New England "Kentucky" style pistols are very desirable.

Good. The brass has an attractive patina. The lock plate and hammer have a smooth dark dray patina. The stock is very fine with a hairline crack on the left stock flat, a putty filled repair near the lock plate and some minor handling marks with most of the finish remaining. Mechanically fine.
