Blade front and two leaf rear sights, with "BALLARD'S PATENT/ NOV. 5 1861" on the right side of the frame, "MERWIN & RAY/AGT'S, N.Y./607" on the left. Smooth stock, with the extractor on the underside of the forearm, "JM" Ordnance cartouches on the left side of the wrist and atop the comb, sling swivels and a smooth buttplate.

Condition: Very good, with a silver gray patina overall, showing minor scratches and scattered age discoloration. The lever screw has some dings around it on left side of receiver. Stock is very fine, with minor handling marks and clear Ordnance marks. Mechanically fine. A solid example of an important Federal Civil War Cavalry carbine.
