Scarce L.C. Smith 4E Grade Double Barrel Shotgun
Built from 1892 to 1912, it is estimated that 388 Smith 4 Grade 12 gauge shotguns were produced (number includes extractor and ejector models). This example features barrels with 2 3/4" chambers, choked full and modified with ejectors. Single bead sight on a solid matte rib marked with the Hunter Arms Fulton address at the breech with gold band ahead of the marking and the underside of the left barrel is marked with the serial number and "4E". The casehardened side lock action features a fine scroll engraving with a dog scene in an oval centered on the side plates which are marked "L.C. SMITH". The water table is marked with the two line 1886 patent dates and the serial number. The blued trigger guard is engraved with a game bird scene. Tang safety and single trigger with selector. Checkered forearm and round knob pistol grip stock fitted with vented replacement Pachmayr recoil pad with spacers. Length of pull is 14 1/4".

Condition: Excellent. The barrels retain 98% original finish with some thinning on each end, minor handling marks and a small patch of mild pitting on the right barrel. The action retains 95% of the original case colors and the locks retain 95% faded original case colors. The wood is very good with some minor handling marks, a few minor chips, with some dings and wear in the overall crisp checkering. Mechanically very good.
