This is an example of a very scarce pre-war 1904 Model Large Nambu pistol. Commonly referred to as a Papa Nambu, these pistols were a continuation of the earlier Grandpa versions of the Nambu pistols and are properly without provisions for a shoulder stock. Approximately 7,100 were produced before production changed to the later standard Type 14 model. This pistol was produced under an Army contract and so marked with the Kanji characters on the left side of the frame. The top of the receiver has the Kokura cannonball proof and the right side of the frame has the Kanji model marking over the serial number. Adjustable tangent rear sight on top of the receiver calibrated from 100-500 meters, fixed inverted "V" front sight, and the grip safety on the front of the grip strap. The bolt and barrel extension are numbered "6920" and the aluminum-bottom magazine "5213".
BBL: 4 3/4 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 8 mm Nambu
Finish: blue
Grips: walnut
Serial Number: 6920
Condition: Arsenal refurbished. The pistol retains half of the finish turned to a dark dull blue/black in color from exposure to salt water and humidity, with some areas of scattered minor pitting overall. All markings are clear and crisp. The grips are very fine with some dings and nicks throughout. Mechanically excellent.
