This is a nice example of a scarce Japanese copy of the Colt 1851/Brevete percussion revolver. There are no markings on the pistol itself, except on the underside of the frame in front of the trigger guard and there is a small Japanese style Lotus blossom, forward of the serial number. It has the standard 7 1/2 inch octagon pattern barrel with a brass frame and trigger guard. The pistol is serial numbered "2893" and is stamped on the trigger guard only and it is fitted with a set of walnut grips. The sides of the rear section of the barrel, the frame, the hammer and loading lever have a nice fine scroll engraving pattern.
BBL: 7 1/2 inch octagon
Stock:
Gauge: 36 percussion
Finish: blue
Grips: walnut
Serial Number: 2893
Condition: Very fine overall, with the barrel and cylinder having 95% of the original browned finish (much like on Japanese matchlocks) with the cylinder also showing 95% finish having browned out completely. The loading lever and frame have lost their finish and are "silvered" out to gray. The trigger guard and back strap are brass. The grips are in fine condition with 95% of the original varnish showing minor handling marks in a few places. Mechanically functions, but is out of time; needs work. A very interesting revolver for the Japanese collector.
