Estimate: $1300 - 1900
Manufactured from 1858 to 1859, this First Model .35 caliber carbine has the Maynard tape primer mechanism on the right side of the frame, thick iron buttplate, and iron patch box. The left side of the frame has the three line Massachusetts Arms Co. address and the right side has the two line Maynard address. German silver blade front and notch rear sights with a tang sight. The carbine is without provisions for a saddle ring and has a smooth stock with no noticeable markings.
BBL: 20 inch part octagon
Stock: walnut
Gauge: 35
Finish: blue/casehardened
Grips:
Serial Number: 2639
Condition: Good. Overall the carbine has a smooth brown patina with traces of original blue finish on the barrel at the breech and some areas of silvered out case colors on the tangs and around the hammer. The stock is also good with some minor pressure dents, dings and scratches. Action needs work as the hammer does not hold a full cock position. Additional Information: The actual serial number of the carbine is "2639", which is correctly located on the back side of the cap-box door. Another number "7345" is located on the rear section of the lower tang, which would indicate it was from a later carbine.
