This is an excellent example of a very early WWI 1914 Dated Crown Erfurt Artillery Luger, rig that has the original and matching walnut board shoulder stock, 1914 dated brown leather holster, leather stock boot and cleaning rod. These early Erfurt Artillery rigs are getting more and more difficult to find all the time as they saw hard use with most being altered under the Versailles Treaty. The chamber area is dated 1914 and the front toggle is stamped with the "Crown/ERFURT" markings. The barrel extension has the Imperial Army "Crown/Gothic" letter proofs and Imperial Eagle firing proof. The Imperial Eagle firing proof and Crown/Script letter proof is also repeated on the right and left breech end of the barrel respectively. The Erfurt "Crown/RC" proof on the rear toggle with most parts marked with a single "Crown/Gothic" letter proofmark and or "Crown/Erfurt RC" proofmark. This example is fitted with the correct Artillery tangent rear sight graduated to 1-8, (100-800 meters) and both the front and rear sights have the fine-tune adjustments found on the early Artillery Lugers. This Luger is complete with one nickel plated, wooden base magazine that is stamped on the base with a "Crown/Script Letter Proof" over multiple serial numbers. This example is complete with an original 1914 dated brown leather holster that is marked under the flap "B.A.IV./GUSTAVE REINHARDT/BERLIN/1914" with the following GI's name and service number ink stamp over the markings "CARL A. VIGGIANI 12124365". This rig also includes the original, matching, numbered 6968, (no "a" suffix, but absolutely genuine) walnut, board shoulder stock and leather boot. The walnut stock itself has a single Imperial Crown/Script proof on the back side. The holster is complete with an original WWI brass tipped, wooden handled, cleaning rod that has an Imperial proof on the upper end.
BBL: 8 inch round
Stock: walnut
Gauge: 9 mm Luger
Finish: blue
Grips: walnut checkered
Serial Number: 6968a
Condition: Excellent with 95% plus of the original blue finish showing minor light wear and thinning on the edges and high spots overall. The walnut grips are near excellent with nice distinct checkering on both sides mixed with a few very minor light pressure dents. The pistol has all matching numbers to include the stock attaching iron as noted. The stock attaching iron retains 80% of its original blue finish, while the walnut stock has a nice original color overall, shows numerous scratches and handling marks on the sides. The leather holster and boot are both fine with only minor scuffing and handling marks on the flap and lower toe. Another really nice all original unaltered early 1914 dated Erfurt Artillery rig.
