This fluted cylinder variation is the earliest production, manufactured from 1863 to 1865 with only a few hundred produced. These revolver are found in the 3 digit or less serial number range. The top barrel flat is marked "MANUFACTURED BY REMINGTONS ILION, N.Y. / RIDERS' PT AUG. 17, 1858 MAY 3, 1859" and the matching serial number is marked on the bottom barrel flat and the left side of the frame, under the grip. This revolver has the distinctive full fluted cylinder, brass cone front, frame notch rear sight, brass trigger guard, finished blue with a casehardened hammer and niter blue trigger and fitted with replacement carved ivory grips with a eagle, shield, flag motif on the right panel and a crown over a two headed eagle shield motif on the left panel. The bottom of the backstrap is famous Remington Collector Karl Moldenauer Collection marked "KM 125" in white.

Condition: Very fine. The revolver retains 70% original blue finish mixed with smooth brown and gray patina, with a few scratches on the top barrel flat and right side of the frame. The trigger guard has an attractive, untouched dark aged patina. The grips are fine with exception of a 1 1/2" moderate sliver absent from the rear of the left panel, minor cracks on the bottoms, a chip on the front upper left panel and darkening in the carving. The markings are clear. The action is excellent.
