Scarce Deluxe Colt Model 1855 Revolving 10 Gauge Shotgun
Colt large frame, 10 gauge, Model 1855, Revolving Shotgun manufactured in 1863. Total production of the Colt Model 1855 Shotguns is estimated to be 1,100 guns. The shotgun has a round barrel with semi-octagonal section at breech. The barrel has a brass bead front sight and under-rib with two iron pipes to support the wooden, brass tipped, rammer. The shotgun has a sighting groove in the top strap, five-shot, fluted cylinder, loading lever with mushroom head and iron, scroll, trigger guard with large bow. The wedge-fastened walnut forearm has a brass tip and oval nickel-silver wedge escutcheon. The highly figured walnut stock has an iron shotgun-style buttplate and checkered wrist. "COL. COLT HARTFORD CT.U.S.A." is stamped in the top strap sighting groove. "COLT'S PATENT/NOV. 24th 1857" is roll-stamped on the left side of the frame. The serial number, "1006" is stamped on the bottom of the frame behind the loading lever cut-out and on the heel of the buttplate.
