Scarce Colt Model 1860 Army Revolver with Fluted Cylinder
Manufactured in 1861, this revolver is one of only about 4,000 Colt Model 1860 Army Revolvers manufactured with the fluted cylinder. These revolvers appear intermittently throughout the first 8,000 serial numbers and have a four-screw frame with recoil shields cut for an attachable shoulder stock. Brass trigger guard and iron backstrap. The grips are smooth one piece walnut. The top of the barrel is marked: "-ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW YORK U. S. AMERICA.", "COLTS / PATENT" is stamped on left side of the frame and the 1850 patent date is marked in one of the cylinder flutes. The matching serial number is marked on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, cylinder, backstrap, wedge and arbor pin. Blade front and hammer notch rear sights, and fitted with one piece smooth walnut grip.

Condition: Period refinished. The metal surfaces have a once cleaned gray patina with moderate pitting on the barrel and overall some scattered minor pitting. The replacement grip has been refinished with much of the varnish remaining. There is a small chip on the lower left edge, small chips on each toe, a minor crack on the right heel, some heavy lower edge wear and a few minor dings. The trigger guard has been polished and remains bright. The "PATENT" marking on the frame is faint, otherwise the markings are clear. The wedge spring is absent and the wedge does not secure tightly. The action is very good.
