This is an example of a Colt Third Model 1851 Navy percussion revolver that was manufactured in 1862 with the 4 screw frame variation cut for a shoulder stock. Colt 1851 Navy Models are the most desirable of the Colt percussion model revolvers cut for stocks. The recoil shields and heel of the back strap have cut-outs for attaching the shoulder stock. The barrel and cylinder were finished blue, the loading lever, frame and hammer casehardened and the brass trigger guard silver plated. The top barrel flat is marked "-ADDRESS COL SAML COLT NEW- YORK U.S. AMERICA-", the left side of the frame is marked "COLTS/PATENT" and the cylinder is roll engraved with the Texas/Mexican naval scene, (faint). The complete serial number is marked on the barrel, frame, trigger guard and back strap with a "K" above or below the number. The partial serial number "28107" is marked on the arbor pin and wedge, and "8107" is marked on the loading lever and cylinder. Brass cone front, hammer notch rear sights and fitted with a smooth one-piece walnut grip.

Condition: Very good. The metal surfaces have a smooth mottled gray patina, with some minor pitting on the barrel and cylinder, and some dings and tool marks on the barrel lug. The trigger guard has an aged patina. The grip is good with traces of original varnish remaining, a chip on the left toe, some lower edge wear and a few minor dents and scratches. Unless noted above, the markings are clear. The action is fine.
