Manufactured in 1860. The revolver has a three inch octagon barrel with no provisions for a loading lever. The revolver is in the correct 164,000 serial range for the "Wells Fargo" Model 1849 revolver without loading lever. It is fitted with a one piece varnished grip. The top barrel flat is stamped with the two line New York address inside brackets and the left side of the frame is marked "COLTS/PATENT." The cylinder is roll-engraved with the stagecoach holdup scene and is marked "COLT PATENT/164040." Matching numbers are present on the cylinder, barrel, frame, trigger guard, back strap and barrel wedge with the number "8" stamped on the frame along with the serial number. The letter "M" is stamped on the left side of the trigger guard. Wells Fargo models such as this example are a desirable and highly sought after variation of the Colt Model 1849 pocket series.
