Colt U.S. Navy Contract Model 1911 Automatic Pistol manufactured in 1912. This pistol was one of 1000 guns shipped to the Brooklyn Navy Yard on August 30, 1912. The pistol has a military blue finish with checkered walnut stock grips and is fitted with a late, "Type 3", two-tone, lanyard loop, magazine. The pistol has the early, rounded rear sight, short hammer and 1911 style safety lock. The magazine catch lock is the late, "Type III", pattern. The barrel has a blue finish and is correctly stamped with the horizontal,serifed, "H" inspection mark on the lip of the chamber. The top of the frame is stamped with a serifed "H" in front of the disconnect or hole and a "3" assembler's mark to the right of the "H". A seirfed "H" is stamped on the back of the frame above the firing pin stop. The right side of the slide is roll-stamped:" MODEL OF 1911. U.S. NAVY". The opposite side of the slide is roll-stamped with the 1897-1911 patent dates in a two-line block followed by the Colt Hartford address in a two-line block. The encircled Rampant Colt logo is rol- stamped on the left side of the slide behind the grip serrations. The serial number, "No. 5172" is roll-stamped on the right side of the frame in front of the slide stop hole. The left side of the frame is roll-stamped with "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" in small letters ahead of the trigger guard. The encircled "WPG" Ordnance final inspection mark is stamped on the left side of the frame above the magazine release.

Condition: Professionally restored to near mint condition and retains all of the military blue finish. The frame and slide markings are crisp. The replacement checkered walnut stocks are in new condition. The barrel has the same polished military blue finish as the slide and frame. The bore is bright. The two-tone magazine has been restored to new condition. U.S. Navy, first year production, Colt M1911 pistols are very scarce in any condition. This is a high quality, professional, restoration of a very desirable M1911 pistol that is very difficult to obtain.
