Scarce Civilian Buyback Henry Nettleton Inspected U.S. Colt Single Action Revolver. Serial no. 50011, .45 caliber, 7 ½-inch barrel with single-line Hartford address. H.N. [Henry Nettleton] inspector stamps on barrel, frame, hammer, cylinder, triggerguard and top of gripstrap. Three-line patent dates on left side of frame."P" inspector stamps also present. Nickel-plated finish. No U.S. markings on side of frame. Ivory grips. Sold with a Colt factory letter confirming the number and caliber with the barrel length not listed; type of finish, blue; stocks not listed; sold to the U.S. government; delivered to the U.S. Government inspector at the Colt Plant August 24, 1878 in a shipment of 200 guns. A scarce civilian Government "buyback" revolver.Condition: Very good. Retaining approximately 30-40% nickel finish, the remainder with grey patina and scattered pitting overall. Grips with mellow age patina and some shrinkage. Action very good.
