Manufactured circa 1861-62 this Civil War era revolver was manufactured by the Joslyn Firearms Company of Stonington, Connecticut. Approximately 3,000 of these revolvers were issued to the U.S. military and almost all of the revolvers went to the State of Ohio, with the majority issued to the 5th and 6th Ohio Cavalry regiments. This standard model revolver features an iron trigger guard and butt cap, solid frame, 5-shot cylinder, side mounted hammer and chekcered walnut grips. The top barrel flat is stamped "B.F. JOSLYN/PATD MAY 4th 1858." Matching full serial number "2580" stamped on the flat butt cap and barrel with the partial serial number "580" on the loading lever and loading lever catch. The cylinder has the number "5800." The underside of the frame ahead of the trigger guard plate is marked with the letter "C".

Condition: Fine. The revolver has a bright appearance with the cylinder retaining 70% original blue finish and traces of original blue remain around the trigger guard. There is some mild flash type pitting. The grips are also fine with a few minor handling marks and crisp checkering. Mechanically fine.
