Manufactured by Richardson & Overman of Philadelphia with a total production of about 12,700 in the 50 caliber. This is a single shot, breech loading percussion carbine with a walnut straight grip stock, carbine buttplate and iron patch box. The rear of the lock is marked "GALLAGER'S PATENT/JULY 17TH 1860" and "MANUFACTD BY/RICHARDSON & OVERMAN/PHILADA" over the serial number directly behind the hammer. The front sight a fixed pinched blade and the rear two leaf folding. There is a saddle ring bar and ring mounted on the left stock wrist. The Gallager saw extensive service during the Civil War including cavalry units from Ohio, Tennessee and West Virginia.

Condition: Good. The metal surfaces have a mottled gray and brown patina with some very mild pitting on the receiver and some oxidation beginning to form on the barrel. The stock is very good with a faint cartouche, a few moderate pressure dents on the lower left side and some scattered minor dings and scratches associated with a Civil War Era weapon. The markings are clear. The mechanics and action are fine.
