This is a scarce original example of a Remington Model 1890 Single Action Army revolver that was manufactured in the 1891-1894 era. The revolver has the distinctive round barrel that lacks the web beneath the ejector housing found on Model 1875 Remington revolvers. The barrel has a nickel-silver front sight blade. The butt has the lanyard ring that was standard on Model 1890 revolvers. The two-piece black hard rubber grips are checkered and have the Remington "RA" monogram is in a panel at the top. The serial number "1798" is stamped on the lower left side of the frame beneath the grips and is written in pencil on the inside of the left grip. The loading gate is stamped with the serial number "1798". The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with the one-line legend "REMINGTON ARMS CO. ILION, N.Y.". The caliber designation "44 C.F.W." is stamped in small letters on the left side of the frame. Remington manufactured approximately 2,020 Model 1890 Single Action Army revolvers between 1891 and 1896. Examples of the Model 1890 Single Action Army revolver are difficult to find and are some of the most sought after Remington handguns.
BBL: 5 3/4 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 44-40
Finish: blue
Grips: hard rubber
Serial Number: 1798
Condition: Very good plus. The revolver has a deep brown patina with traces of the original blue finish in protected areas. There are traces of flash pitting on the frame in front of the cylinder, on the edge of the top strap and along the edge of the muzzle. The hammer retains half of the original casehardened finish. The factory legend on the top of the barrel and the caliber markings on the left side of the frame are clear. The grips are very good having faded to a very attractive deep brown. The checkered surfaces show light handling wear; the "RA" monograms are crisp. The action is tight and functions perfectly. This is an original example of a scarce Remington Model 1890 Single Action Army revolver.
