Scarce Blue Finish Remington Model 1890 Single Action Army Revolver

Estimate: $18000 - 25000
This is one of the estimated 2,000 Model 1890 Single Action Army Revolvers manufactured from 1891 to 1896. The Model 1890 was the successor to the Model 1875 and was intended to be the competitor of the Colt Single Action Army. This model revolver is the most sought after of all of the Remington produced handguns. The top of the barrel is marked "REMINGTON ARMS CO. ILION, N.Y." and "44 C.F.W." on the left side of the frame just below the cylinder. The serial number is stamped on the left side of the frame under the grip. The revolver has blade front and frame notch rear sights, lanyard stud with ring mounted on the butt and fitted with checkered grips with the "RA" monogram at the top. Compounding its rarity is its exceptional blue finish. Remington was known to have an extremely fragile bluing process which caused the blue to flake off prematurely. This is the finest original example of a Remington 1890 that Rock Island Auction has had the pleasure of auctioning, and certainly the finest this writer can recall examining.
