Saxon crossbow with carved bone inlay circa 1580-1650. The iron bow measures 21 1/2" across and retains a period cord. The condition is very good with only normal aging, slight cracks and some wear at topfrom "goat's foot" or "cranikin" being used. The butt cap has a loss of bone and a couple other small chips also. The inlays show tip floral carving with grapes and serpent miked in. A nice size and genuine early crossbowwhich is inlaid similarly to wheelocks of the same era. Est.:$7,500-$15,000.
