Savage Model 99 featherweight takedown rifle, .22 High Power caliber, 20” barrel, factory style scroll engraved, select fancy checkered walnut stocks, blue finish, case hardened lever, Lyman type tang sight for Savage, with unusual engraved buttplate showing trap door and portrait of Savage head or logo with facsimile signature Stewart Howard White engraved in bottom of frame mounted with sling swivel eyelets and cartridge counter.Serial #131823. A letter dated September 26th, 1919, to Lewis Struver of Los Angeles, CA on White’s stationary mentions he traded the rifle to a Mr. Wundhammer. A subsequent note in pencil says in summary that Emmet B.Howard purchased the gun from Lewis Struver, administrator of the Wundhammer estate and that he called Mr. White and he had traded this gun (Savage 99) for an antique gun from Wundhammer’s Gun Shop. A bill of sale datedApril 20, 1946 documents the transfer from Howard to Howe. A letter from Roe S. Clark, Arms Historian involved with Savage Arms records that this Savage was recorded in the factory records as a takedown model, .22 High
