This is an exceptional large black on black pottery jar or bowl from the Santa Clara Pueblo Native American Indians dating from circa 1920 from the historic Sundog Bruce VanLandingham collection. The piece shows a large size with a classically shaped water jar olla having a double rolled edge and straight flat rim. The bowl shows a high polished finish in fine well-preserved museum quality condition and shows the original trading post tag that reads, “From the Pueblo Of Santa Clara $2.75”. The pot also comes with an original museum collection tag from the Sundog Gallery in Bozeman, Montana which reads, “Santa Clara Lamp Base c. 1920 $4,500 BV0112”. Provenance: From the renowned Sundog Fine Art Bozeman, Montana collection and collected by Bruce VanLandingham. Bruce VanLandingham was a pillar in the American Indian collecting community and a respected expert. Along with being an avid collector Bruce also was the sole owner of Sundog Fine Art Gallery in Bozeman which was both part museum and gallery. The bowl shows two holes, one at the side and the other at the bottom for use as a lamp, these holes are professionally done and appear to be of an early age. From the bottom center hole appears to be three hair-line cracks which could be only superficial. This piece measures approximately 8 1/4" tall with a 9" diameter.
