REVOLVER. Cal. 45 ACP. S# 3091. Bbl 5 1/2". Standard configuration US Model of 1917 double action revolver manufactured by Smith & Wesson. The left side of the barrel is stamped with the caliber designation, with the top bearing Smith & Wesson's 2 line address, and the underside being stamped "UNITED STATES PROPERTY". Left side of frame bears an mostly illegible "GHS" inspector stamp, indicating inspection by Major Gilbert H. Stewart. Major metal components exhibit a factory style reapplied blue finish, with the hammer and trigger exhibiting a case color hardened finish. Frame is mounted with 2 piece smooth wood grips. All numbers are matching and are present on the frame, rear face of the cylinder, extractor, as well as on the underside of the barrel. Bbl. & frame have additional number "4345". CONDITION: metal components retain bountiful amounts of their factory style reapplied blue finish, exhibiting few superficial marks from handling and storage, some scattered spots of mild surface oxidation, as well as some small spots of light pitting beneath the finish.. Mirror bore, exhibiting areas of mild pitting beneath the finish and retaining strong rifling throughout. Grips show some scattered marks from handling and storage, but are otherwise sturdy and serviceable. PROVENANCE: From the estate collection of Thomas J. Mulligan. (23-2204/MLW). CURIO. $1,000-2,000.
