SNIPER RIFLE. Cal. 30-06. S# 3638613. Bbl. 24" marked w/ "S-A-5-52" & inverted "P" proof. Throat gauges 2.0. Muzzle gauges 1.0. "T105E1" Aperture rear sight. Blade front sight w/ protective ears. The M1C sniper rifle was developed in the later part of WWII & saw service mostly in the Pacific Theater toward the close of the war. This example has a receiver drawing no. "D28291 35" which is in the correct range for these scarce rifles. Receiver fitted w/ Griffin & Howe side mt. Mount's S# on the left side does not match the rifle. Non matching but correct WWII vintage steel slide w/ slant cut scope rings. Rifle is equipped with a M82 telescope mfg. by Lyman Gun Sight Co. & was mfg. post 1948 as it has the newer style federal stock no. "F001-0084688". This scope utilizes a .875" diameter tube & is equipped w/ a vertical post w/out crosshair. Serial no. "43870". The drawing numbers appear in the correct locations on the eyepiece, adjustment mt. & dust caps. Scope is equipped w/ sliding sun shield & rubber eye cup. The S# on the blued steel slide does not match the rifle. The slide is equipped w/ the earlier type rounded & checkered levers. The slide is marked on top w/ "GRIFFIN & HOWE INC. NEW YORK / PAT. 1,856,549 MAY 3, 1932". All major parts markings except the 1962 dated replacement bbl. are "SA" including the mill trigger guard w/ drawing #. High Hump gas cyl. lock & cross slot gas cyl lock screw. Walnut stock set, buttstock (which is also a replacement) is marked on the left side w/ the defense acceptance eagle & marked under grip w/ encircled "P" proof. Stock is equipped w/ a brown leather lace on cheek piece having 2 brass attaching screws. Cheek piece is marked on left side w/ "line". The balance of the marking is illegible. Unmarked green web sling. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: cone type flash hider marked "HIDER FLASH M2". Cleaning kit & plastic oiler w/ cleaning rod handle in butt. CONDITION: stock set has crisp markings w/ light to moderate wear & scattered handling marks. Cheekpiece has wear & scuffing w/ verdigris on brass parts. Metal parts retain a high degree of original parkerized finish w/ light wear & thinning. S# enhanced w/ white. Telescope has a worn thinning, greenish gray parkerized finish. Optics appear cloudy but serviceable. Slide has 60% original worn thinning finish. Very good shiny bore w/ sharp lands. PROVANANCE: from the Estate Collection of Thomas J. Mulligan. (23-1229/RW).
