This is a Smith & Wesson 2nd Model Safety Hammerless "Lemon Squeezer" revolver chambered in .32 caliber. The revolver shows a nickel frame, cylinder and 3.5" barrel with factory black hard rubber grips. The barrel is marked "Smith & Wesson Springfield Mass U.S.A. Pat'd Feby 20. 77. Dec. 18. 77. May 11. 80. Sept. 11. 83. Oct. 2. 83. TWO Aug. 4. 85." The Safety Hammerless or Smith & Wesson New Departure is nicknamed the "Lemon Squeezer" because the safety must be squeezed in order to fire the gun. The revolver incorporated an internal hammer and an external grip safety on its backstrap. The double-action Safety Hammerless was produced from 1887 to 1940 with this example being from circa 1895 to 1905. The Smith & Wesson Safety Hammerless revolver is in good condition and has retained much of the original nickel finish. The bore is bright and rifling is crisp. Serial Number: 142955. This firearm qualifies as a Curio & Relic Long Gun, and requires FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.
