Accompanying this lot is a copy of a historical account entitled "The Rosewood Report" produced by the Tallahassee Democrat Newspaper concerningracial unrest in Florida during the early 1920s and the article's writing was assisted by the staff of Florida State University and the University of Florida. The report indicates that from January 4th thru the 7th, the predominantlyblack town of Rosewood, Fl. was the subject of widespread violence by whites concerning rumors of an earlier attack on a white woman by a black man in that area. Homes, businesses and the church of Rosewood were burned and men and women werekilled. After the remaining population of Rosewood fled to Gainesville, the remaining structures in the city were lost to arson.
