Route 66 Lon Chaney Jr. Mummy Mask
The TV classic series "Route 66" (1960-1964) was everyone's fantasy. Two young men (Martin Milner and George Maharis) travel the country on Route 66 in their 1956 Corvette getting into adventures and helping people. One of the strangest episodes was "Lizard's Leg and Owlet's Wing", (Episode 5 from Season 3), their famous Halloween special that aired on October 26th 1962. In the story, Milner and Maharis are working at the O'Hare Inn near Chicago. The special guests in the episode were the top three horror movie icons: Boris Karloff, Lon Chaney Jr. and Peter Lorre who have meet at the Inn to discuss whether the old monster make-up they used in films would still scare folks today. This is Lon Chaney Jr's hero screen used mask used in the scene where he "dresses up" as the Mummy and sits up from the inside a coffin to try and scare a "mature" woman. Made of a cloth muslin woven foundation with latex features and painted silver. The mask is mounted on a plaster base and head. The back and base of the mask show signs of age and chipping. There is a slight chip on the left hand side of the nose as well. A rare piece of horror movie history! (Approx 13"x9"x9").
