Striking canvas lined, leather backed, lush, red wooly angora chaps with two-tone leather tops featuring five-pointed inlaid stars, buckstitched billet, inside pockets. Great condition, c 1920s PROVENANCE: Max, the original owner of these chaps was involved in his family ranch near Carstairs, just north of Calgary. He worked with Falconbridge Mining Company and was a bit of a loner who thoroughly enjoyed being left on his own in the middle of nowhere – prospecting and living off game meat and fat from the bears he hunted. Max reportedly shot 53 bears, 3 of which were grizzlies. He was also an incredibly talented craftsman and was a master with leather, metal or wood and could make or build anything to perfection. Max had an eye for quality and though he lived modestly (despite being extremely well off) his outdoor gear was always the very best.
