Rigby bolt action rifle, .275 cal., 24-1/2” round barrel marked “John Rigby & Co. Sackville St. London”, built on a Mauser action, three stage rear sight (2 stages flip-up); receiver top with scope mount bases; blue finish, checkered wood stock, steel butt plate, sling swivel eyelets, single trigger, # 66963/5362, accompanied with fabric covered luggage style casing marked “BARON CEDERSTROM” displaying several partial old shipping labels; interior is green baize lined with John Rigby & Co. label, Instructions for Cleaning Rifle after Shooting label, compartments include a leather sling, an old jar of Vaseline Blue Seal Petroleum Jelly, a nickeled powder funnel, a two-piece cleaning rod, an ivory circular container with ivory screw cap, a tin bottle marked “Special Cleaning Fluid” and a matching tin bottle marked “Rangoon Oil”, both by Rigby & Co. (how neat is that!), a pull-thru cleaning brush for .275 in leather pouch, a small empty leather pouch and a leather carry pouch with Zeiss Jena scope marked “John Rigby & Co.” with mounts that fit this rifle’s mount bases, displaying fine optics and with leather sight covers. This finely made hunting rifle is in overall very good condition showing the majority of its old quality re-blue finish with a few minor small spots of erosion, fine bore, crisp action, sharp markings and overall very good wood stock with minor old scattered mars and scratches from carry and storage; steel plate re-enforced wrist. Baron Cederstrom had an interesting life having been born into a famous Swedish family who ran a Health Gymnastic Clinic in London. In 1899, he married a woman 19 years his senior and who owned a castle with large land holdings. The baron spent the following years hunting and fishing and performing in the theater with his wife until her death in 1919. He inherited her property and promptly put it up for sale with the castle bringing a price of 19,000 English pounds. Est.: $3,500-$7,000.
