Manufactured from 1875 to 1890. Adjustable globe front sight, no provisions for a rear sight and equipped with a tang mounted mid-range vernier peep sight. The top barrel flat is marked "E.REMINGTON & SONS ILION N.Y.", the bottom flat ahead of the forearm is marked "40-70" and the six line patent marking is on the left side of the receiver, with the serial number on the lower tang and on the rear of the forearm (internally). Single set trigger, blue barrel, breech block, trigger and hammer with casehardened frame and trigger guard. Mounted with a fancy Creedmoore style bordered checkered walnut forearm with horn forend and pistol grip stock with a checkered horn buttplate.

Condition: Very good plus. The barrel has a smooth brown patina with scattered traces of thin original blue finish. The action and trigger guard have a smooth mottled gray patina with some traces of original case colors. The wood is also very good with some scattered minor dents and scratches, and crisp checkering. The markings are clear. The action is excellent.
