Manufactured from 1873 to 1890, with an estimated production of only a few hundred. They were also available by custom order. This long range Creedmoor rifle features a spirit level front globe sight, partial octagon barrel without provisions for a rear sight with a long range tang sight. The left side of the receiver is marked with the six line patent dates and the serial number is marked on the lower tang. The top barrel flat is marked "E.REMINGTON & SONS ILION, N.Y.", the under side of the barrel ahead of the forearm is marked "44 S" and the matching serial number is marked on the bottom flat under the forearm. The barrel is blue with a casehardened receiver and buttplate. Mounted with a nicely figured smooth walnut forearm with an iron forend cap and checkered pistol grip stock with a horn insert in the bottom of the grip, iron buttplate and a sight mount on the top of the comb.

Condition: Fine. The barrel retains 70% original blue finish, with scattered thinning and areas of smooth gray patina. The receiver and trigger guard show 30% original faded case colors with a smooth mottled gray and brown patina on the balance. The buttplate shows strong original case colors mixed with a smooth silver gray patina. The wood is also very fine retaining almost all of the original varnish and showing a few overall scattered minor dings and scratches, and crisp checkering. The markings are readable. The action is excellent.
