This lot features a scarce commercial Remington No.1 Rolling Block .43 Caliber Center Fire Saddle Ring Carbine. These carbines are shown in the 1877 Remington catalogue as having 20 1/2" barrels and weighing 7 lbs. They were chambered in either the .43 cartridge or the .50 Rim Fire or Center Fire cartridge and priced at the time at $16.00. These scarce carbines were very popular with frontiersmen, “buffalo runners” (hunters who shot stampeding buffalo from horseback and needed a powerful compact rifle), in Mexico and along the southern U.S. border right through to the beginning of the 20th century and the Mexican Revolution. The barrel retains the original short Remington carbine leaf sight with blade carbine front sight; barrel blue has aged to a deep plum, gray/brown receiver with Remington markings and various 1870s patent dates on the upper tang, fine action, bore, butt stock and forearm, wonderful uncleaned and unaltered old west appearance. One of the most rugged and trusted powerful carbines of the Old West. This rifle is a antique. NO FFL transfer or NICS background check required
