Offered in this lot is a fine example of one of Americas very first high-powered, semi-automatic, self loading rifles - A Remington Model 8, chambered in .30 Remington caliber. The Mod. 8 was introduced in 1906, and became an instant success with hunters, lawmen, and outlaws alike. In 1934 Texas Ranger, Frank Hamer used a Remington Model 8, chambered in .35 REM to gun down famous outlaws Bonnie Parker, and Clyde Barrow. This particular rifle features a five round internal magazine, a high-grade walnut stock, and fore-grip, original buckhorn rear sight, with a correct Lyman Blade/Bead front sight, and a 22" round barrel, which utilizes a "Long Recoil Operated" action. The Model 8 was designed with practicality, and transport in mind; the screw on the fore-grip, which appears to be a sling swivel, is actually a take down screw, remove the fore-grip, and spin the exposed take-down lever, and the barrel easily detaches from the receiver for compact transport. This rifle is marked in numerous places, reading; "Remington Arms-Union Metallic Cartridge Co.Remington Works. Illion N.Y. U.S.A. - Browning's Patents OCT. 9, 1900. OCT. 16, 1900. JUNE 3, 1902. MAY 14, 1907." on the top of the barrel infront of the rear adjustable buckhorn sight, Serial Number: "F - 29486 - K" on the bottom of the receiver, and "30 REM." on the bolt. The hard rubber butt-plate also shows good, intact condition, showing the "Remington UMC Trade Mark" Plaque. The rifle was manufactured in 1912, and shows good condition, with a tight and smooth action, high grade walnut accessories, factory filled optional rear tang screw, and good finish on the barrel. As well, the bore shows good condition, with a little bit of darkness. The rifle qualifies as a Curio & Relic firearm, and requires FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check. Serial Number: 29486.
