Remington-Keene Frontier Model bolt action, magazine fed rifle, .45-70 cal., 24” barrel, blue finish, wood stock, sling swivels, #NVSN; although not government inspected as is seen on traditional U.S.I.D.-marked Indian Police guns,this Remington-Keene Frontier Model, formerly in the award-winning Gordon Matson collection, is stamped “USDIA” and “Carl Matson” on the left side of the receiver along with a punch dot symbol which all appear to be period accomplished;patent markings are sharp, metal surfaces show a light grey patina, good action, bore is dark but with good rifling; wood stock is overall good showing an old repair on the right side near the action and old punch dot markings on the bottom of the butt stock that appear to be “Joe Darow”. Accompanying this gun is a note from the original Matson collection stating “Model 1874 Remington-Keene Indian Police rifle, 45-70. This rifle has unusual marking such as USDIA whichstands for United States Dept. Indian Affairs, instead of United States Interior Dept. This rifle came from the Blackfeet Indian Reservation in Montana. Carl Matson was the Indian Agent”. The late Gordon Matson was known to have traveled
