Remington-Keene Frontier Model Magazine bolt action rifle made for the U.S. Dept. of the Interior to arm the Indian Police (1880-1881), .45-70 caliber, 24” round barrel, S/N U.S.I.D. 419, blued finish, wood half stock, in overallvery good condition showing areas of original blue in protected portions of the barrel assembly and frame; there is also an inspector’s mark (WWK), “P” proof and arrow mark on top of the receiver; crisp action, good bore overall, sling swivelsremaining; the stock is overall good with scattered mars, scratches, etc. plus a lightly scratched star on the left side of the butt stock adjacent to a carved “P” type symbol. This gun is accompanied by a folder containing inventorycards indicating the gun was previously in the famed Gordon Matson collection of Indian Police guns and artifacts. Per Flayderman’s Guide to Antique American Firearms, estimates are that only approximately 500 of this Model were manufactured for use by the forces of the U.S. Indian Police. (Antique).
