This lever activated falling block single shot target rifle was designed by Lewis Hepburn and was manufactured from 1883 to 1907 with approximately 10,000 in total production. The absent front sight has been removed and the base remains. The rear sight is an adjustable sporting sight. There is a mid-range Vernier tang sight. The top barrel flat is marked "E. REMINGTON & SONS. ILION. N.Y." between the rear sight and breech, the lower right side of the receiver is marked "HEPBURNS PAT. / OCT 7TH 1879" and the serial number is marked on the lower tang. The barrel under the forearm is marked with "762" and "40 2 1/2" ahead of the forearm. Blue barrel, breechblock, hammer and trigger, casehardened remaining metal parts and mounted with a smooth forearm with an iron forend insert, and multi point checkered round knob pistol grip stock with iron carbine style buttplate.

Condition: Very fine plus. The barrel retains 85% original blue finish with areas thinning to a smooth plum patina and some scattered minor spotting. The breechblock, hammer and trigger retain 99% of the original bright blue finish. The receiver retains 80% plus of the original, slightly faded case colors. The trigger guard/lower tang retain 70% original case colors mainly in the protected areas with a smooth mottled gray patina and the buttplate retains 75% original bright case colors. The wood is excellent with a few very minor pressure dents and dings, with sharp checkering. The markings are clear. The action is excellent.
