Antique single action revolver chambered in .44-40 Winchester, manufactured circa 1875-1889. Features a 5-3/4" round barrel, ejector rod with large webbed housing, pinched post front sight, 'u' notched rear sight, fluted six-shot cylinder, smooth wide trigger, hammer with knurled spur & integral firing pin, monolithic frame/grip frame with lanyard ring on the butt and two-piece smooth wood grips. Bore retains traces of rifling, shows a dull gray color. Revolver has been cleaned, showing mottled light grays and silvery bare metal, darker colors in the deeper pits. Many small gouges, pits, and dents. Markings are absent other than the "285" under the grips. Grips are heavily eroded, showing shrinkage at heel and toe, flat towards center, with smoothed out gouges. Action is heavy and a bit rough, hesitant, with fair lock-up. Drag line is a wide band of bright metal. Loading gate spring is weak or damaged, door has moderate play in closed position. sight is mounted in a hole drilled all the way into the barrel, possibly relocated after shortening the barrel. The "fin" under the barrel shows a line where this part was added as a separate piece, with a non-original appearing pin at the rear into the face of the frame.
