This is an example of a 1867-70 pattern Navy rolling block pistol that has been converted into a 22LR target pistol. The left side of the receiver has the original Remington two-line, factory address and patent dates with the right side having the original Navy inspector's proofs that consist of a "P/F.C.W". It is still fitted with the original factory barrel that has the small naval proofs on top of the breech area that consist of the "H.E./Anchor" proof. As noted this pistol has been commercially converted to 22LR by sleeving the barrel to the current 22LR caliber, and the first four inches of the barrel have been slightly turned to a taper pattern with a ring barrel band at the transition point in the middle. The breech block has been appropriately altered to rimfire and it still retains the sliding extractor, adopted to the 22 LR cartridge. There has also been a small sighting flat milled into the top of the receiver which has been fitted with a non-adjustable blade rear sight. The front end of the barrel has also been modified by having a dovetailed cut into the barrel and it has been nicely fitted with an early Lyman type bead front sight. It still retains the original, unaltered walnut forend and one-piece pistol grips. The left side of the grip has been stamped with the US Army inspector initials of "FGW" inside a small oval cartouche.
