Hāhālua Series
This body of glass artwork by Hawaiʻi born glass artist, Daniel Wooddell, began in Oakland, California as a study of the manta ray (Hāhālua in Hawaiian).
Inspired by childhood memories of growing up in Hawai’i, the series evolved into abstractions in form and color.
The Hāhālua series utilizes the Italian glass making technique of incalmo, which incorporates blowing separate sections of hot glass, then stacking the sections to make one bubble to produce the form.
This version is entitled ‘Red/Yellow Hāhālua’ and measures approximately 12” x 10” x 3”.

Value estimated at $3000 retail.
A piece from the series, ‘Purple/Gold Hāhālua’ was acquired in 2003 by the Hawaiʻi State Foundation on Culture and the Arts, and is in it’s permanent collection.
