One of the original White Star Line ships. It was purchased for White Star by the original owners, Pilkington and Wilson for $60,000. An almost unheard of price for a ship in those days. Red Jacket was a clipper ship with a composite hull used on the UK-Australia run. It was known as an "Extreme Clipper" one of the fastest passenger ships of her day. She carried first and second class passengers but no third class. Later became a timber carrier from Liverpool to Canada. Red Jacket ended up in the late 1870's used as a coal barge. This is the eighth item ever put up for auction from the first auction of a US Naval ship that had been recycled. This makes it a historic item in and of itself. This piece should not be considered an art piece due to it's condition. However, it is a very collectable piece for the very same reason. All weather damage is authentic. Documentation will be provided from the auction company.
