Rare original advertiser for Aetna Insurance Co. Hartford, Connecticut showing “$17,485,894.71 PAID” at top and portraying the burning of the Colt pistol factory February 1864 and this was the highestinsurance claim paid at that time. The advertiser measures approx 27” by 48” and is an old period frame which is possibly the original. The image is signed, “Lithographed and printed in colors by EHRGOTT, FORBRIGER& Co, Cincinnati.” The condition is very good plus and is the finest of only three known to this cataloguer and sophisticated collectors. One of the three being badly damaged and the other showing restorations.Consigned from the Estate of Hugh Hayes, one of California’s early Colt and Bowie knife collectors who told this cataloguer that he paid close to $40,000 cash and trade for this exact advertiser as he felt it was the bestand earliest Colt advertiser existent.
