Rare flintlock grenade launching blunderbuss of diminutive size and fine quality, probably Dutch made, approx. 17” overall in length with 7” brass barrel which measures 1-5/16” across muzzle with nearly 1” bore; stock of root burl walnut andblunderbuss is mounted with brass showing nice quality engraving and pierced sideplate. From the style and manufacture, we would date the piece from 1690-1725. Blunderbuss remains in original very good to fine condition with dark patina onlockplate, original flintlock, hammer, topjaw, screw and all correct parts; barrel shows a nice natural patina and sharp quality engraving; stock is very good with one small repair at toe and evidence of worm holes that have been filled butcrisp and nice overall with brass tipped of-the-period ramrod. A very diminutive size for this type of blunderbuss and made to shoot flares at opponent’s sails which was a tactic employed by the Dutch. (Antique). Est.: $4,000-$8,000.
