Rare double-barrel percussion rifle by J. Purdey, 514 1/2 Oxford St., London. .50 caliber side by side with barrels measuring 30-3/8”, nearly 47” overall. Half-stocked. The locks show fine and tight scrollengraving, especially on the tang, the barrels show a Damascus pattern finish, with approx. 30-50% original brown, some scattered minor erosion and pinprick pitting. The signature is good and very visible. Theoriginal folding 3-leaf rear sight with platinum lines is retained. The lockplate and hammers show 30-50% toning case hardening and also scroll engraved. The mounts and patchbox are engraved en suite and the rifleis #6635 on triggerguard. The stock is in good to very good condition showing fairly crisp checkering, just some minor wear at the edges and normal use, a few marks and dings, etc. The actions are crisp and work well.Barrel shows two-groove rifling for a special belted ball. Original to the period rod is retained and the gun shows loops for European type sling swivels, and platinum plugs at breech. Early percussion Purdey rifles are
