Rare and early Flintlock knife pistol signed “Winhoring & C.M.” on lock area beneath pan. The grip is cast German silver which is lightly engraved and Flintlock mechanism made of steel and mounted on outside of body with barrel in the grip handle. The blade is forged steel. The gun measures 9-7/8” overall with 5-1/2” blade approx 1” wide at ricasso. The top jaw is missing otherwise complete with all original parts. The action cocks and works. Refer “Firearms Curiousa” by Winant pg. 26. This style knife pistol is among the earliest of blades with barrels dating from late 17th to early 18th century. Two makers produced this type of knifepistol of which Winhoring is the least encountered and less than 15 original specimens are estimated to exist. From an old New York collectors’ estate.
