Rare and desirable Bowie knife showing cast bronze guard and grips with figure of dolphin and etched blade with legend “For Australia” made by Thomas Short Junior, Sheffield. The knife remains in very good plus original condition showing traces of original gold gilt on the crisp cast handle. The blade is it’s full original dimensions with some normal staining, aging and slight beginning pitting. The etching is well-defined around the very desirable Australian marking. The knife retains its original scabbard which is in good condition with some minor losses, opening at the edges and just normal age. The throat, button attachment and tip are all retained. The knife measures approximately 15” overall with 9 ½” blade. Est.: $6,000-$12,000.
