This is an excellent example of a mid-WWII K98 rifle as manufactured by the Gustloff factory, that has a scarce "SS" stamped stock marking. The top of the receiver is marked with a partial "Eagle/26" over "bcd/43" the wartime code for the Gustloff Werke at Weimar and for the year of manufacture. The receiver side wall has the block "Mod 98" marking. The rear portion of the barrel and receiver have a single Eagle firing proof, with no other visible proofs or markings. The rifle has the mid war milled/stamped pattern components with the milled upper barrel band, trigger guard and floor plate and stamped lower band. The stock and handguard are the correct late war laminated versions that are not numbered or proofed, and it is fitted with a cupped sheet metal buttplate. The stock as noted has a single circular "SS" proof behind the stock take down washer with no other marks. This rifle is complete with front sight cover, cleaning rod and a cross-hatched leather sling.
